Signed EU-New Zealand Free Trade Agreement including cross-border data transfer regulation

On 9 July 2023, the Free Trade Agreement between the European Union (EU) and New Zealand was signed. The Digital Trade Chapter prohibits the restriction of cross-border data flows between the parties. In particular, the parties will not require the use of computing facilities located in their jurisdiction for data processing or impose data localisation requirements for data processing. The text will now be transmitted to the European Parliament for consent.
