Russia: Imposed fine on Viber for alleged non-compliance with content moderation regulations (Case No. 5-665 / 23)

On 20 June 2023, Viber was fined RUB 1 million for purportedly breaching content moderation regulations, having initially been convicted of neglecting to remove prohibited information. The company received multiple notifications from Roskomnadzor and failed to comply with the mandatory removal of several communities and their associated information, which contained false details regarding the Russian Federation's military operation in Ukraine.
