Canada: Published Companion Document for the Artificial Intelligence and Data Act (AIDA)

On 13 March 2023, Innovation, Science, and Economic Development (ISED), a department of the Canadian government, published a Companion Document for the Artificial Intelligence and Data Act (AIDA). This Companion Document presents a proposed roadmap for potential future regulation of artificial intelligence. AIDA was introduced as a component of Bill C-27, which is currently undergoing its second reading in the House of Commons. The Companion Document provides an overview of AIDA's aims, scope, and provisions, including by providing examples of potential areas of application. The Companion Document also sets out a timeline for consultation and adoption of implementing regulations if AIDA is passed.
