Implementation of CPTPP by Australia, Canada, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand and Singapore

On 30 December 2018, the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) entered into force after Australia, Canada, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand and Singapore completed their respective internal ratification procedures and notified the Depositary (New Zealand). The CPTPP contains numerous provisions affecting the digital economy, including a chapter (14) on e-commerce which establishes rules on online consumer protection, data protection, cross-border data flows, and data localisation, among others.
