Announced legislation to combat harmful online misinformation and disinformation including content moderation regulation

On 20 January 2023, the Australian Government announced it will introduce new legislation to regulate digital platforms and combat harmful misinformation and disinformation in Australia. In particular, the Bill would encourage digital platform providers to have robust systems and measures in place to address misinformation and disinformation on their services and may require digital platform services to have systems and processes in place to address misinformation or disinformation that meets a threshold of being likely to cause or contribute to serious harm
