Description

Adopted Amended Policy for export of Drones/Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) for civilian end uses from India

On 23 June 2023, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry adopted amendments to the policy on the export of Drones/Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) for civilian end uses from India. India's Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has simplified and liberalised the export policy for civilian drones and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The amended policy, aligned with India's Foreign Trade Policy 2023 and international non-proliferation obligations, allows for the export of drones manufactured in India for civilian use. Previously, drones were controlled under the SCOMET list, requiring specific licenses for export. Under the revised policy, drones not falling under specified categories, with limited capabilities, and intended for civilian purposes can be exported under a General Authorization for Export of Drones (GAED), eliminating the need for individual licenses.
