Issued notice to Twitter requesting information on online hate prevention polices

On 22 June 2023, Australia’s eSafety Commissioner issued a notice to Twitter requesting information on the policies implemented by the company to prevent and address online hateful conduct on the platform after a surge of complaints and reports of serious online abuse. Twitter faces a daily fine of nearly AUD 700’000 if it fails to respond to the notice within 28 days.
