G7: Issued G7 data protection and privacy authorities statement on generative AI technologies

On 21 June 2023, the G7 data protection and privacy authorities (DPAs) issued a statement after having met to discuss recent developments and challenges of generative AI technologies from a data protection and privacy perspective. In particular, the DPAs highlighted areas of concern where privacy and data protection risks may arise within the context of generative AI tools. In addition, the DPAs noted the work being developed through ongoing investigations on services that use generative AI. The DPAs also highlighted the importance of collaborating with technology companies to ensure the responsible design, development and deployment of generative AI products and services which align with data protection regulations.
