Announced Commission for the Protection of Minors in the Media public lawsuit against three Cyprus-based platformsover alleged non-compliance with age verification obligations

On 5 June 2020, the Commission for the Protection of Minors in the Media filed a public lawsuit against three Cyprus-based platforms displaying mature content over alleged non-compliance with age verification obligations following the investigation conducted by the State Media Authority of North Rhine-Westphalia. The Commission stated that the platforms failed to implement technical measures to ensure that children and young people do not access the content displayed on the platforms, which was rated as appropriate only for users over 18 years old. The Commission is requesting approval of an order to telecommunication providers to block access to the platform in Germany.
