China: Adopted State Administration for Market Regulation special action for optimisation of platforms' terms of use

Description

Adopted State Administration for Market Regulation special action for optimisation of platforms' terms of use

On 15 June 2023, the State Administration for Market Regulation announced the start of a five-month special action to support platforms in optimising their terms of use. The special action aims to ensure compliance with consumer protection requirements and platform operators' rights while supporting the development of the user-generated platform economy. Large platform companies will especially be supported by guiding them towards terms of use that follow regulations and support general system cooperation. The strategy followed will be "one investigation, two supplements, three reviews, and four reforms". Self-inspection by the platforms will also be required. Local authorities and legal experts will be consulted to review platforms' terms of use, identify vulnerabilities and potential for improvement, and provide feedback.
