Adopted Recommendation regarding Privacy Enhancing Technologies (PETs)

On 19 June 2023, the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) issued a recommendation urging organisations to adopt the use of privacy enhancing technologies (PETs). According to the ICO, PETs improve the secure management and sharing of individuals' personal data. The ICO states that such technologies allow organisations to use personal data without directly accessing it. PETs can further be employed to share anonymous personal data to identify and deter financial crimes such as fraud, money laundering, and cybercrimes. The ICO has in addition released new guidance on PETs.
