Adopted revised OECD Guidelines Governing the Protection of Privacy and Transborder Flows of Personal Data containing cross-border data transfer measures

On 11 July 2013, the OECD Council adopted the "Recommendation concerning Guidelines Governing the Protection of Privacy and Transborder Flows of Personal Data". The updated guidelines establish that countries should refrain from restricting transborder flows of personal data to countries that observe the Guidelines, or where sufficient safeguards exist, such as enforcement mechanisms and measures put in place by the data controller.
