On 11 July 2013, the OECD Council adopted the revision of the "Recommendation concerning Guidelines Governing the Protection of Privacy and Transborder Flows of Personal Data". The guidelines set the following principles for managing personal data: collection limitation, data quality, purpose specification, use limitation, and security safeguards. Moreover, it is established that individuals should have the right to obtain, erase or rectify their data. The revision adds the obligation for countries to establish and maintain privacy enforcement authorities and equip them with sufficient resources to exercise their powers effectively.
