Portugal: Opened Competition Authority investigation into acquisition by Vodafone Portugal of Cabonitel

On 5 April 2023, the Portuguese Competition Authority (AdC) opened an investigation into Vodafone's proposed acquisition of Cabonitel. The AdC aims to determine whether the acquisition would create significant obstacles to fair competition in the domestic market. The AdC noted that based on its preliminary findings, the merger has the potential to result in both unilateral and coordinated effects, which could have adverse consequences for telecommunications customers in Portugal.
