Issued Guidance on Privacy Rights under Connecticut Data Privacy Act

On 5 June 2023, the Connecticut Attorney General issued comprehensive guidance explaining the privacy and data rights of consumers and the obligations of businesses under the “Act Concerning Personal Data Privacy and Online Monitoring” (Connecticut Data Privacy Act) which will enter into force on 1 July 2023. Notably, the guidance highlights the obligation of businesses to collect and process data in a transparent and limited manner and to maintain a privacy notice that clearly describes how consumers may exercise their rights under the Act. In addition, the guidance highlights the obligation of businesses to protect the personal data of children and teens and to obtain opt-in consent before selling the personal data of a consumer under 16 years old or sending the consumer targeted ads.
