On 10 August 2020, the South African Reserve Bank's (SARB) Phase 1 of Project Khokha was concluded after achieving its objective of exploring an emerging technology with industry to consider its potential impact. In particular, a real-world trial of a distributed ledger technology-based wholesale payment system proof-of-concept proved was carried out successfully.
