Announced Competition Council investigation into Sony regarding alleged abuse of dominant market position

On 29 May 2023, the Competition Council announced the opening of an investigation into Sony Interactive Entertainment Europe Limited and its subsidiaries (Sony) over its distribution of video games and alleged abuse of its dominant market position. The Competition Council stated that Sony had sold video games compatible with PlayStation exclusively through its PlayStation Store and prohibited the sale of activation codes for PlayStation-compatible video games from competing stores. Finally, the Competition Council alleged that the practices reduced the options to purchase compatible video games PlayStation, which led to price increases and discouraged Romanian studios from developing PlayStation-compatible video games.
