Adopted Norges Bank Financial Infrastructure Report 2023 including recommendations for a national strategy for regulating crypto-asset markets

On 25 May 2023, the Norges Bank, Norway's central bank, published the Financial Infrastructure Report 2023 including recommendations for a national strategy for regulating crypto-asset markets. In its report, the Norges Bank lists international developments in regard to the regulation of crypto assets, including the European Union's Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulation, which could be applicable in Norway due to the providers' main activity in the EU economic area. Furthermore, the report notes potential inadequacies relating to evolving technological risks. The Norges Bank proposed that Norway consider advancing its crypto regulations independently of international guidelines due to possible different national interests. The Norges Bank report also provides information regarding its inquiry into central bank digital currency.
