Announced Procon.SP investigation into Netflix's additional charges for sharing subscriptions

On 24 May 2023, the Consumer Protection Authority of the State of São Paulo Brazil (Procon.SP) has issued a notice to Netflix and opened an investigation concerning its new policy for imposing additional charges for sharing subscriptions. Under the new policy, Netfix will impose an additional BRL 12’90 monthly charge on users sharing their accounts with persons outside their households. Procon-SP aims to investigate Netflix's communication to subscribers, the new billing criteria and how the new access system operates. Further, the Procon SP aims to determine the additional charges for sharing subscriptions compliance with the Consumer Protection Code.
