Republic of Korea: Issued ruling in the PIPC investigation into Pet Box Co compliance with Personal Information Protection Act

On 24 May 2023, the Korean Personal Information Protection Commission (PIPC) issued its ruling in the investigation into Pet Box Co, an e-commerce platform, compliance with the Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA). In particular, the PIPC stated that Pet Box Co failed to comply with the violated safety measures outlined in Article 29 and the special exception for the destruction of personal information, Article 39, of the PIPA. The PIPC imposed a KRW 7.8 million fine and corrective measures.
