On 16 May 2023, Japan's Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, together with the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, published the draft "Guidelines Ver3.0 for Certification of Information Trust Functions". The guidelines are intended to guide the operation of a voluntary certification scheme promoting trust and reliability to facilitate information sharing in the private sector. The current draft updates the guidelines to include information on handling requirements regarding health-related personal information. The Ministries previously conducted a study group on the “Certification Scheme for Information Trust Functions” to discuss the handling of personal information in the health and medical fields. The results of this study were compiled into the "Guidelines Ver3.0 for Certification of Information Trust Functions". Opinions on the draft are being sought from 17 May 2023 until 15 June 2023. The received opinions will be considered to compile and publish the final version.
