On 1 January 2020, the US-Japan digital trade agreement enters into full force. Article 15 of the Agreement requires the two countries to adopt a legal framework that protects the personal information of the users of digital trade. Moreover, the Parties should encourage the development of interoperability mechanisms between their different regimes.
