Issued CNIL second penalty against Clearview AI over noncompliance with previous ruling

On 13 April 2023, the French Data Protection Authority, Commission Nationale de l'Informatique et des Libertés (CNIL) imposed a EUR 5.2 million penalty on Clearview AI, a US-based facial recognition company. This penalty was imposed due to Clearview AI's noncompliance with the ruling issued in October 2022, which included a fine of EUR 20 million and an order to delete the data collected on individuals located in France without any legal basis. Clearview AI was given two months to comply with the order, but it did not provide any proof of compliance within the given time limit.
