Brazil: Announced CADE investigation into Meta for alleged abuse of market power in advertising related to "fake news" law

On 2 May 2023, the Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE) announced the opening of an investigation into Meta regarding the alleged abuse of its dominant position in the market regarding its advertising related to the Brazilian Law on Freedom, Responsibility and Transparency on the Internet (Bill 2630/20). CADE stated that it received several complaints claiming Meta abused its dominant position in the market by using its platforms, Facebook and Instagram, to display advertising against Bill 2630/20.
