Implemented USMCA including data protection regulation

On 1 July 2020, the Free Trade Agreement between the United States of America, the United Mexican States, and Canada (UCSMA) entered into force- Article 19.8 requires each Party to adopt and maintain a legal framework to protect the personal information of the users of digital trade. The Agreement includes limitations on data collection, data quality, purpose specification, use limitation, security safeguards, transparency, individual participation; and accountability. The Agreement also recommends taking into account principles and guidance of international bodies, such as the APEC Privacy Framework and the OECD Recommendation of the Council concerning Guidelines governing the Protection of Privacy and Transborder Flows of Personal Data (2013).
