United States of America: Announced White House Action Plan to Promote Responsible Artificial Intelligence Innovation

On 4 May 2023, the White House announced the Action Plan to Promote Responsible Artificial Intelligence (AI) Innovation as part of the Biden Administration's approach to develop a comprehensive framework of AI risks and opportunities. In particular, the action plan includes the launch of seven new National AI Research Institutes with USD 140 million in funding by the National Science Foundation, commitment to public evaluations of existing AI systems by AI developers, and the release of draft policy guidance by the Office of Management and Budget for federal departments and agencies to ensure that the development and use of AI systems safeguard Americans' rights and safety.
