Description

Introduced Country of Origin Labeling Online Act (COOL/S 1421) establishing requirements for e-commerce sites to list country of origin

On 3 May 2023, the Country of Origin Labeling Online Act (COOL/S 1421) was introduced in the United States Senate. The Act aims to promote American-made goods online, increase the transparency of e-commerce, and protect the right of American residents to know where products were manufactured. In particular, the Act would require all goods sold online to list their country of origin, applying to e-commerce the same requirements for goods sold offline in the US. If adopted, the Act would require the country of origin labelling for a product to be clearly stated in the website's description of the product and the country in which the seller of the product is located in the online product listing.
