On 2 May 2023, the Federal Supreme Court (STF) issued its ruling in the Federal Police investigation into Google, Meta, Spotify and Brasil Paralelo over alleged misleading advertising on the Brazilian Law on Freedom, Responsibility and Transparency on the Internet (Bill 2630/20). The STF ordered Google, Meta, Spotify and Brasil Paralelo to remove all content related to the Google blog post containing information classified as misleading on Bill 2630/20 within an hour. In case of non-compliance, the platforms face a fine of BRL 150’000 per hour. Furthermore, the STF required platforms within 48 hours to submit a report on the number of advertisements, amounts invested and the terms Google offered. The STF required Meta and Google to provide information on the methods and algorithms employed to amplify the message referring to Bill 2630/20 censorship in 48 hours. The platforms Spotify and Brasil Paralelo are required to submit information regarding the algorithms and their reason for displaying and amplifying Google's political advertising containing "misleading information" on Bill 2630/20. Finally, the platforms are required to report on the measures implemented to address misinformation and illicit practices and collaborate with the Federal Police.
