Introduced ASSESS AI Act aiming to establish an AI Task Force (ASSESS AI/S 1356)

On 27 April 2023, US Senator Michael Bennet introduced the Assuring Safe, Secure, Ethical, and Stable Systems for AI Act (ASSESS AI/S 1356) to establish a cabinet-level AI Task Force that would aim to assess the current policies and legal gaps in the use of AI by the government at the federal level. The Task Force, which would include representatives from industry, academia, and nonprofit organisations, would recommend specific legislative and regulatory reforms to ensure the responsible use of AI by government. The Task Force would also recommend federal standards for thorough AI risk assessment and auditing and recommend policies for responsible AI procurement. A final report would be submitted to Congress and the President within 18 months of its creation.
