Introduced Protecting Kids on Social Media Act (S 1291) including service access restrictions

On 26 April 2023, the Protecting Kids on Social Media Act (S 1291), including service access restrictions, was introduced in the United States Senate. In particular, the Act would require online platforms to implement systems verifying the age of users and prohibit the access and use of their platform by individuals under 13 years old. Furthermore, the online platforms would be required to obtain parental or guardian consent for a minor to create an account. Finally, the Act would require the Secretary of Commerce to lunch an age-verification system that platform intermediaries may use.
