Brazil: Announced Digital Tax on e-commerce platforms

On 20 April 2023, Brazil's Finance Minister announced that the country would implement a "digital tax" on shipments from e-commerce platforms, exempting consumers from tax collection during purchases. The proposed measure will adopt an improved collection system for an existing tax, which will be collected electronically before shipping goods. The Finance Minister made the statement following the negotiations with the e-commerce platform Shein, noting that it would adhere to Brazil's Federal Revenue compliance plan.
