On 19 April 2023, the Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee of the UK Parliament opened a consultation on the draft Media Bill until 17 May 2023. The Bill would amend the Communications Act 2003 by giving the Office of Communications (OFCOM) new powers to regulate “on-demand programme services” such as Netflix. Furthermore, video-on-demand providers not currently regulated in the UK but who target and profit from UK audiences will also be brought under OFCOM’S jurisdiction.
