United States of America: Introduced SB 1236 amending taxation rules for blockchain nodes

On 26 January 2023, Bill 1236 was introduced into the Senate of Arizona. The Bill aims to prevent cities, towns, and counties from prohibiting or restricting individuals from running blockchain nodes in residences. Additionally, these local governments are not allowed to impose taxes or fees on the use of blockchain technology by any person or entity. The Bill stipulates that the regulation of running a node on blockchain technology in residences and the imposition of taxes or fees for using the technology is considered a matter of statewide concern, and it cannot be further regulated by cities, towns, or counties. The legislation defines "blockchain technology" and "running a node on blockchain technology" as prescribed in section 44-7061 of the Arizona Revised Statutes.
