EU Commission approves acquisition of MGM by Amazon

On 15 March 2022, the European Commission approved the acquisition of MGM by Amazon unconditionally. In particular, the Commission concluded that the proposed transaction would not result in a significant decrease in competition within the markets for (i) producing and providing audio-visual content, (ii) wholesale supply of TV channels, (iii) retail supply of audio-visual services, (iv) producing and licensing distribution rights for third-party film distributors for theatrical release, and (v) providing marketplace services. The transaction was notified on 8 February 2022.
