Description

Issued CMA warnings to private hospitals for failing to provide patient performance data and outcomes

On 12 April 2023, following an investigation into the private healthcare sector, the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) sent warning letters to two private hospitals, the Ulster Independent Clinic and the Fortius Clinic, for failing to provide data on performance and patient outcomes. This breached the Private Healthcare Market Investigation Order 2014, which stipulates that private healthcare providers have to supply information to the Private Healthcare Information Network (PHIN) for publication. This prevented patients from making accurate comparisons when choosing a provider. Both hospitals have been given six months to comply or risk further enforcement action from the CMA.
