Issued EU Commission Statement of Objections over proposed acquisition of VMware by Broadcom

On 12 April 2023, the European Commission issued a Statement of Objections expressing concerns over Broadcom's proposed acquisition of VMWare. In particular, as a result of its in-depth investigation, the Commission is concerned that Broadcom may restrict competition in the global markets for the supply of Fibre Channel Host-Bus Adapters (FC HBAs) and storage adapters by foreclosing competitors' hardware by delaying or degrading their access to VMware's server virtualisation software. The Commission has until 21 June 2023 to adopt a final decision in this investigation.
