Introduced Protecting Military Servicemembers' Data Act of 2022 (S 4281)

On 19 May 2022, the Protecting Military Servicemembers' Data Act of 2022 (S 4281) was introduced in the United States Senate. The Act would prohibit data brokers from selling, reselling, trading or licensing the personal data of military personnel, including addresses, political leanings, and lifestyle preferences, to a covered nation. The covered nations include North Korea, China, Russia and Iran. Furthermore, the Act would give Federal Trade Commission (FTC) the power to investigate data brokers' compliance with the provisions and bring enforcement actions under the Unfair and Deceptive Acts of Practices against data brokers violating the prohibition.
