Issued ruling against Google for abusing its dominance in the online search market

On 8 February 2018, the Competition Commission of India (CCI) sanctioned Google with a fine of INR 135.86 crores (USD 21 million) for abusing its dominance in the online search market. The investigation had been initiated after Matrimony.com and the Consumer Unity & Trust Society had filed information with the CCI. Google is found to have created a search bias by listing its own services very high on its search results page, despite these rankings not reflecting the actual relevance of the search results. Google also manipulated its search algorithm in order to list its services so highly. Finally, Google was found to have included unfair conditions in contracts with website publishers.
