Adopted White Paper on A Pro-Innovation Approach to AI Regulation

On 29 March 2023, the UK Government issued the White Paper on A Pro-Innovation Approach to AI Regulation. The White Paper sets out five principles representing the salient issues for safe and innovative AI and intended to guide regulatory action in relation to AI. The five principles are: (1) safety, security, and robustness; (2) transparency and explainability; (3) fairness; (4) accountability and governance; and (5) contestability and redress. These principles are intended to underpin the UK's regulatory framework for AI, though the government does not currently plan to codify them in legislation. The White Paper is a result of a consultation conducted on a 2022 policy paper.
