Description

Announced settlement between Canadian Competition Bureau and StubHub for advertisement of unattainable prices

On 13 February 2020, the Canadian Competition Bureau (CCB) reached an agreement with StubHub, an online seller of tickets to sporting events and other entertainment events, as part of which StubHub is obliged to pay a fine of CAD 1.3 million. StubHub had engaged in pricing practices that were misleading, seeing as the offered prices were unattainable. This is because the prices which were advertised by StubHub did not include the mandatory fees that were added later in the purchasing process. These fees were only visible if optional filters were explicitly turned on. As a consequence, the prices offered by StubHub were deemed to be misleading and StubHub is also obliged to cease showing misleading prices and is obliged to show all mandatory fees from the very beginning of the ticket purchasing process.
