Ruling against Ticketmaster for misleading pricing in online ticket sales

On 27 June 2019, the Canadian Competition Bureau sanctioned Ticketmaster with a fine of CAD 4 million, as well as investigation costs of CAD 500'000 for misleading pricing in online ticket sales. Specifically, Ticketmaster advertised prices that did not include mandatory fees, which were added later on in the purchasing process. This resulted in misleading price representation, seeing as the fees would add between 20 and 65% more on top of the prices which were advertised. Ticketmaster is also obliged to initiate a compliance program which will avoid unattainable prices in the future, as well as prevent other issues with advertising.
