Announced settlement between Canadian Competition Bureau and Facebook regarding false or misleading representations about the disclosure of personal information

On 19 May 2020, the Canadian Competition Bureau reached an agreement with Facebook concerning false or misleading representations about the disclosure of personal information. Facebook is forced to pay a fine of CAD 9 million, as well as cover the costs of CAD 500'000 for the investigation. Facebook further agreed to not make any further false or misleading representations about the disclosure of personal information, or the disclosure of whether users can control or access their information. Facebook is also prohibited from sharing personal information with third-party developers unless stated otherwise in the privacy terms.
