Filed Grindr appeal against the administrative fine imposed by the Datatilsynet

On 14 February 2022, the Norwegian Data Protection Authority (Datatilsynet) announced that Grindr appealed the administrative fine of NOK 65 million (approx. EUR 6.5 million) previously issued due to the breach of General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) consent requirements. On 15 December 2021, Datatilsynet announced that it has found during its investigation that Grindr has illegally shared personal user information with third parties, including GPS information, IP addresses, as well as age and gender. Furthermore, the consent which Grindr collected from users to process and share such information was found not to be valid. The Datatilsynet will analyse Grindr’s appeal and decide whether to revoke or change its decision or refer the case to the Privacy Appeals Board (Personvernnemnda).
