Published Privacy Policy Assessment

On 17 October 2022, the Japan Personal Information Protection Commission published the guidelines and a report on Privacy Policy Assessment (PIA) entitled "Promoting PIA Efforts - Significance of PIA and points to note in line with implementation procedures" for businesses that handle personal information. The Commission notes that businesses collecting and storing data have to comply with the privacy by design requirement and outlines the actions that entities could take to ensure compliance with the requirement. The PIA represents a method used to identify security risks to the personal data stored and measures that could be implemented to address them. Furthermore, the Commission also published a "Data Mapping Toolkit" for businesses to organise the data they handle and improve data management.
