Launched Feasibility Study for a general-purpose retail central bank digital currency

On 25 May 2021, the South African Reserve Bank (SARB) announced it had initiated a study to analyse the feasibility of a central bank digital currency (CBDC) as electronic legal tender for general-purpose retail use, complementary to cash.
