CMA approves NortonLifeLock/Avast merger and issues final report

On 2 September 2022, the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) published its final findings regarding the proposed acquisition of Avast by NortonLifeLock. The companies Avast and NortonLifeLock provide cybersecurity software, including antivirus, virtual private networks and identity protection. In its report, the CMA approved the acquisition noting that the anticipated acquisition may not result in a substantial lessening of competition due to the increasing number of applications offering cyber safety solutions in the United Kingdom. The final report was issued following a public consultation on the CMA's provisional approval of the acquisition.
