CMA announces more in-depth NortonLifeLock / Avast merger inquiry (Phase II)

On 25 March 2022, the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) announced an inquiry into the NortonLifeLock Inc. and Avast merger. The two cybersecurity companies intend to merge to create a business selling online security software. The CMA concluded in its Phase I inquiry that this merger would lead to a substantial lessening of competition within the UK markets. After the companies did not provide satisfactory comments after the Phase I ruling, the Phase II inquiry was ordered.
