Russia: Roskomnadzor administrative measures against the Wikimedia Foundation

On 20 July 2022, the Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media (Roskomnadzor) announced that is implementing additional administrative measures against Wikimedia due to the company’s refusal to delete content regarding the “special military operation on the territory of Ukraine” classified by the Russian Government as “prohibited “. The Roskomnadzor stated that the users of the internet source Wikipedia will be informed of the company’s violation of Russian law. Furthermore, the Roskomnadzor noted that Wikimedia Foundation was previously fined RUB 5 million for its failure to delete content classified as “illegal information”.
