Roskomnadzor sends a letter to Russian Wikipedia demanding to remove “false information”

On 4 April 2022, the Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media of Russia, Roskomnadzor, sent a letter to Wikipedia asking to delete information regarding the Russian special military operation in Ukraine classified as false by the Russian authorities. The Roskommnadzor noted that the information published has an “anti-Russian” interpretation of events and requested its deletion. The letter was sent following the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation's request and is the second time Roskomnadzor notifies Wikipedia to delete information posted on their platform. In the case of non-compliance, Wikipedia risks a fine of up to RUB 4 million.
