Announced advances to cybersecurity labelling program for smart products

On 21 February 2024, the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) announced a proposal for a cybersecurity labelling program for wireless Internet of Things (IoT) products. The program would award IoT products that meet the required cybersecurity standards a label to assist consumers in making informed purchasing decisions and highlight products that meet certain cybersecurity standards. Further, the program aims to incentivise manufacturers to increase their cybersecurity standards. The program would designate the FCC to provide oversight, and accredited labs would do compliance testing.
